From Fern McLiesh on RootsWeb WorldConnect Amy Croucher was born 6 May 1866 in Bentley, Hampshire, parents Samuel Croucher and Sophia Knight-Gregory. Went to New York with her parents in January 1872 from Victoria Docks, London. Married Thomas Bailey, and had two sons, but he died in a saw mill accident, and she then married Mathew McClinchey with whom she had three children including Lillian and James. Amy had been looking after her mother who died of flu in 1896, and Amy died 10 days later. La Grippe flu killed several people in Port Carling in that period.
Her two children Lillian and James McClinchey are in the 1911 Canadian census living with their grandparents James and Mary McClinchey at Brook Steet, Gravenhurst, Muskoka, Ontario and James is in the 1901 census living with his grandparents James and Mary McClinery (sic- Mc Clinchy on original) and two uncles James and Henry at Gravenhurst, Simcoe, Ontario. I cannot find Lillian in the 1901 census.
