Not at home with his wife (at Mill Lane, Dorking) in 1881 census - instead (as Daniel Groucher) aged 44, born in Dorking, unmarried (he was married), employed as an agricultural labourer, and lodging with Henry and Mary Goacher (aged 38 and 33), their four sons, and daughter, and another lodger at Partridge Green, West Grinstead, Sussex.
In Ancestry 1891 census census aged 55, born in Dorking, employed as a brickmaker, and living with his wife, son, two daughters and a lodger at Partridge Green.
In Ancestry 1901 census aged 64, born in Dorking (Dorning in the index), married, employed as a brickmaker, and living with his wife and son at Partridge Green.
Appears to have been a brickmaker in the clay outcrops of the North Weald. In 1877 the eldest daughter was born in Cranleigh, his son was born in 1879 in Ditchling, Sussex. It is not clear what happened in the 1881 census, but he seems to have left home and taken up employment as an agricultural labourer in Partridge Green - the census was probably filled in on his behalf, hence the errors. The family later moved from Dorking to join him at Partridge Green. His youngest daughter was born in 1884 in Horsham which is only 7 miles from Partridge Green where he was still living in 1901.
His wife was born in about 1837 in Cranleigh (Cranmer in the 1881 census and Cranleight in the Ancestry 1901 census) and her age is given in the three census as 44, 53 and 62.
