I cannot find an entry in the 1891 census, but he was not living with his wife (who was married) and son.
In the 1901 census as Albert Croucher aged 52, born in Brighton, single, employed as a carpenter, and boarding with Charles Culverwell (aged 60, born in Bishops Waltham, Hampshire, and employed as a general shopkeeper working on his own account from home), his wife (Ada aged 44 and born in Lilbury (Tilbury), Essex), and daughter (Ada aged 6 and born in Woolwich, Kent ), at 30 Eastern Road, East Brighton (there were two other boarders living in a seperate two rooms at the same address).
