Entry in Further Relections on Churt Olivia Cotton 2004 p16 "Another brother Len Croucher, born 1916, was a respected and successful gardener in the village. At a time when larger houses had 2,3 or more gardeners, and when entry forms for the annual flower show displayed the gardeners' names, Len's duties at Barford Court included Sunday work on the two tennis courts which had to be mown and marked out ready for the afternoon tennis parties. His army service in World War II with the Queen's Royal West Surrey Regiment included captivity as a prisoner of war. After the war he worked at Court Barn for the Bullock family who later presented Len with a house in Hale House Lane." I believe he was captured in Burma and was a Japanese PoW.
